Blue Merle was started in the mid 1990's by Peter Phillips. Peter saw that public concern regarding the over use of antibiotics and strong medicines was going to push farmers away from regular use of these, towards a more natural approach. The recent problems in UK agriculture with BSE and Foot and Mouth have only served to reinforce this.

The company now supplies homeopathic remedies to farms all over the United Kingdom, through a network of agents.

Fully qualified pharmacists make these remedies for Blue Merle, from a list of tried and trusted homeopathic preparations, some of which have been made since the 1950's or longer. Any problem we come up against can always be referred to our pharmacist for advice. In addition, Blue Merle are currently working with Aberdeen University Centre for Organic Agriculture and other bodies to perfect new remedies.

During April 2002, Blue Merle became a Limited Company. The Directors of the new company are Peter Philips and his Son, Alan, who run the main office at Alton, Staffordshire. Derek Robson, from Brampton, Cumbria and the company secretary, Adrian Dodd, from Belper, Derbyshire.

The main agents who cover various parts of the country are - Wilf Smith, from Sheffield, Mark Pilcher, from St Ives, Mike Armitage, from Caithness and Colin Leaske, from Fife.

Modern farms are very busy places, we believe time and effectiveness are essential considerations when formulating a method of use. With this in mind, Blue Merle have developed a method of applying the remedies which is intended to be as simple as possible. This system is intended to help cut down on stress for both the animal and farmer. Most of our remedies are simply added to the animal's drinking water at the required rate per animal.

Our remedies can also be used on an individual basis if required, either as drench, or added to an individual water bowl or trough. When using our remedies, the animals must not have access to any water other than that which contains the remedy.

The use of code names to market animal homeopathic products in the United Kingdom is a legal requirement enforced by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. Blue Merle have submitted company details to this directorate.

Blue Merle's original customers continue to use our products, year after year
